An introduction to wood bending techniques including steam bending, hot pipe bending and cold lamination. My experience with steam bending goes back to my days building dog sleds and boats in Alaska, and I have used all three methods in furniture construction. Many chair designs, tables and other forms depend on bent parts in their construction, and the processes involved are not difficult to master. This will be a hands-on demonstration session, bending steamed pieces and cold laminations around forms and free-bending thin pieces on the hot pipe. Students will come away with the basic knowledge and experience needed to start incorporating these bending techniques into their own projects.
